About Me: Born in Chicago. Raised in Connecticut. I am one of four kids. Two sets of twins!! I enjoy spending time with my fiancé (one of the IM residents here at Genesys) who I met while in Med school in Alabama. We are parents to an awesome French Bulldog named Echo. I am a huge hockey fan and try to watch as many Boston Bruins games as I can.
Why Genesys?: I was impressed by the autonomy given to the residents by the attendings and staff. I also liked that Genesys is a community hospital with an academic medical center feel with multiple residencies and fellowship programs. Most importantly, I was impressed by the way the residents worked as a team.
Advice to students: Medical school and residency can be stressful and anxiety provoking. Always strive to find the joy in what you are doing. Take time to give yourself credit for your accomplishments and remember that medicine is the most rewarding profession and will give you tons of joy if you let it.

Medical School: Western University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific
About Me: I come from a close knit family. I grew up playing sports, majored in Exercise Biology and Nutrition and have lived in California all my life up until now. I migrated to Michigan with my spouse and kids -we love it here despite living miles away from home! I enjoy family time and (almost) anything outdoors. Bonding with my fellow residents, baking, running, basketball, snowboarding, and checking out local brews are some of my favorite hobbies.
Why Genesys?: Camaraderie between residents, close knit relationship with attendings, support from our program director and staff, resident well-being, autonomy - especially on solo call covering both GYN and OB services, competency of senior residents
Advice to Students: Pursue what you are passionate about. Don't be afraid to be you while on away rotations- you want to match at a program that accepts you for your qualities. Situational awareness is important especially while on away rotations-be mindful of what is going on around you. Learn from constructive criticism. You can learn from EVERYONE you work with.

About Me: I'm a military wife who loves hiking/being outside, fitness, traveling, and spending time with my family (especially my sweet twin nephews!).
Why Genesys: When auditioning, I was impressed with the resident's competency and comfortability in the OR- they got early exposure operating and it showed. Residents also had good autonomy here, from managing the OB floor and GYN patients to the program in general. The residents all seemed happy. They enjoyed who they worked with and being at work. I saw great resident-to-resident/nurse/attending relationships and I wanted to be a part of a program like that.
Advice to Students: Look at the senior residents, are they what you want to look like when you're getting ready to graduate? Watch how the residents interact with one another/their attendings and pay attention to their overall demeanor, do they seem happy? Rank programs by where YOU want to train, not by where you think you're most likely to get a spot.

About Me: I really enjoy outdoor activities like skiing, rock climbing, hikes, and float trips. I love spending spare time at many of the lakes in Michigan riding my jetski. I also enjoy playing video games, baseball, and working out.
Why Genesys?: The reason I chose this program is how supportive the residents and attending are to each other. Residency is a long road that will require support and knowing that someone is always there for me, when I am having a challenging case is invaluable. Another reason is I saw how skilled the senior residents were in the OR and managing labor and delivery and knew that I would want to progress to that level as a resident.
Advice to Students: Don’t be too hard on yourself throughout this process, there will be lots of things you don’t know along the way. It’s okay you’re still learning.

About Me: Spending time with my dog (Hooch the Shih-Tzu), cooking out, baking, being a tourist in my new home state.
Why Genesys?: Faculty was more invested here than anywhere else I rotated in getting to know the residents and teaching them as individuals. Busy labor and delivery service that allows for early surgical opportunities in cesarean sections. Extensive robotic surgery exposure.
Advice to Students: Immerse yourself in the city you are rotating in. You won’t regret that when you’re new to the community as an intern looking for things to do in your off time.

About me: Married with 2 kids. We enjoy getting out of the house and exploring our new home. Enjoy hiking, spending time relaxing at the lake, cooking food together, spending time with family and friends.
Why Genesys?: great OB and gyn surgery volume, attending who are supportive of learning and actively teach and allow autonomy when treating patients, very supportive PD and assistant PD, great residents who all work well together and are friendly and helpful.
Advice to Students: seek out programs that you'll not only enjoy spending the next 4 years at but that also can help you reach our future career goals whether that's fellowships or excellent obstetrics and surgical training.

About Me: I love to bake and cookies: my specialty is Brown Butter Chocolate Chip cookies! I love hanging out and playing with my dog Finn and my step-dog Hooch. I'm a cineophile and an avid podcaster.
Why Genesys?: I chose Ascension Genesys OB/GYN because I was blown away at the residents surgical skills in the OR, their knowledge of both basic and high risk pregnancies, and the support they received from the attending physicians.
Advice to Students: Reflect about what's really important for you and your goals, and be observant if the residents reflect those same intentions. Give yourself grace during the Match process - it's a hard process, but it's all worth it in the end.

About Me: Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, being outdoors, and traveling. I am hoping one day to go to Thailand and New Zealand. I love dachshunds and plan on owning one in the future!
Why Genesys?: I chose this program because it felt like home to me. I saw how the residents and attendings were like a family and very supportive of one another.

About Me: In my time off I enjoy socializing with friends and family. I also like to travel, play music, and try fun cooking recipes.
Why Genesys: I am a former base student who loved the Genesys community and was eager to stay a member of it. The relationships between residents, attendings, and other staff are respectful and collaborative. We treat patients of diverse backgrounds and get strong surgical training starting in your intern year.
Advice to students: Approach every rotation with an open mind, and try to pay attention to how excited you feel about a field of medicine, especially at the end of your longest days or weeks.
